Our Review

PS 5 Children's Aid Society is in a beautiful building it shares with PS 5 Ellen Lurie, a pre-k through 5th grade school. The newly renovated building has lovely flower and vegetable beds in the yard and many trees and climbing equipment [see photo from the web].

The Children's Aid Society pre-kindergarten is recommended by Lehman College early childhood expert Kym Vanderbilt. (PS 5 Ellen Lurie offers 54 pre-k seats. PS 5 Children's Aid Society has 36 seats. They are in the same building.)

The elementary school has more than 600 students and serves a largely Hispanic population. Many are new English speakers. PS 5 has had declining enrollment in recent years. Maureen Guido became principal in 2016. She is the former principal of PS/IS 276, a popular school with a reputation for a sweet, traditional tone and solid academics.

Since its founding, PS 5 Ellen Lurie has partnered with Children's Aid Society. They offer medical, dental and mental health services, in addition to the Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
