The Downside

Little information available

PS 371 is a school where teachers agree that the principal is an effective manager and that she has a clear vision for the school, surveys report.

The school, which serves over 250 high school students, is located in three sites across Brooklyn. The Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) explains that each of the three sites supports students with different disabilities; The main campus serves students with emotional disabilities and intellectual disabilities, the Sunset Park High School location serves students with Autism and intellectual disabilities, and the Telecommunications High School location serves school phobic students. The attendance rate for the 2015-2016 school year was 67 percent, according the CEP.

In addition, the school offers work opportunities to its students. Two of the main work sites are Kings County Hospital and Fort Hamilton army base. However, there are also many work sites for students based in the Sunset Park area that include culinary, retail and clerical opportunities, the Comprehensive Education Plan explains.

ADMISSIONS: Citywide. PS 371 is part of District 75, a network of 69 schools dedicated to New York Citys students with disabilities who require increased attention. District 75 provides educational, vocational, and behavioral support programs for students who are on the autism spectrum, have significant cognitive delays, are significantly emotionally challenged, have a sensory impairment or have multiple disabilities.
