Our Insights

What’s Special

School for children with special needs in hospital settings

The Downside

Little information available

PS Q023 serves students with psychiatric or medical needs who are in hospitals or treatment centers, according to the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) . There are five different sites including NYCCC, Lifeline Center for Child Development, Zucker-Hillside Psychiatric Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital, and St. Marys Hospital for Children.

Students who attend PS Q023 are accepted after all other options have been exhausted. According to the CEP, students in this program have spent much of their previous school time in crisis, out of the classroom, in detention, hospitalized or being truant and many students have learning deficits due to the amount of time not spent in class.
