PS Q256 has both residential and non-residential facility, as well as inclusion programs and self-contained classrooms, according to the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP). The school serves students with Individualized Education Plans in 6:1:1, 8:1:1, 8:1:2 (preschool), 12:1:1, 12:1:4, 8:1 (inclusion) and 9:3 (inclusion) for 12 months of programming. In addition, at the high school level, the school has programs for immigrant students and students placed through the court system.
Based on the 2015 Quality Review, P.S. Q256 is unique for the array of electives it offers. For example, the school implemented electives in financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Additionally, the school has implemented an elective taught by the Mouse Squad who teach students skills and training to operate a school-based help desk, and they learn skills that include technology repair, gaming design, coding and renewable energy.
ADMISSIONS: Citywide. PS Q256 is part of District 75, a network of 69 schools dedicated to New York Citys students with disabilities who require increased attention. District 75 provides educational, vocational, and behavioral support programs for students who are on the autism spectrum, have significant cognitive delays, are significantly emotionally challenged, have a sensory impairment or have multiple disabilities.
