District 24
District 24 serves a vibrant, diverse, and densely populated section of Queens that includes the neighborhoods of Corona, Elmhurst, Glendale, Long Island City, Maspeth, Middle Village, and Ridgewood. Overcrowding remains a challenge at some schools despite new school openings.
Most students attend their zoned elementary and middle schools, several of which offer Spanish or Chinese and English dual-language programs, which attract students from across the district.
Notable options include P.S. 110 (K–5), a districtwide program focused on arts integration, and A.C.E. Academy for Scholars (K–5), known for its diverse student body and academic rigor.
Charter schools have a growing presence, particularly at the middle school level, such as Central Queens Academy (6–8) and Middle Village Preparatory Charter School (6–8).
Families enjoy many local cultural events and venues, such as bilingual storytimes at the Langston Hughes Library in Corona and public art at the Elmhurst Sculpture Garden. The Queensboro Dance Festival also brings global dance performances—salsa, kathak, hip-hop, and more—to local parks and school communities. The Louis Armstrong House Museum in Corona celebrates the legendary jazz musician’s life.
