District 8

The southeast corner of the Bronx encompasses Grand Concourse, Morrisania, and Tremont. It is home to Hunts Point Riverside Park, a revitalized waterfront space, and Throggs Neck, known for its shipbuilding history and seafood culture. Rocking the Boat works with students in this district—a nonprofit in boatbuilding, sailing, and environmental science.

On the western side, Hunts Point has one of the highest poverty rates in the city, while the eastern areas, like Throggs Neck and Soundview, feature public housing, modest homes, and newer condominiums.

P.S. 152 Evergreen (3K-5) in Soundview serves many English Language Learners and students with disabilities. Bronx Charter School for the Arts (K-5) offers a healthy mix of arts and academics. South Bronx Classical Charter IV (K-6) is known for its strict culture and high test scores, and Hyde Leadership (K-8) highlights character development and college prep.
