new-picture-2.bmpLast week, we asked whether you are monitoring the number of hours your kids spend in front of the screen -- especially as this intense heat and humidity could be keeping them indoors. Nearly half of you said you limit the number of hours of computer and TV use per day or week. About a quarter of you leave it up to your kids, and 17% of you said you don't really have much control, but wish you did. Thanks for voting!

On Thursday, Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum released a report that found a majority of public school principals surveyed by her office support the $81 million Achievement Reporting and Innovation System (ARIS), a computer system designed to boost achievement and accountability in classrooms.<!--more-->

But, The New York Times reportedthat 56% of the principals said their staff had not been adequately trained, 54% reported technical problems, and 26% said they did not believe that it was a good use of their time. Only 315 of the city's 1,497 principals responded to the survey. The DOE says that its own survey had a much higher response rate (nearly 90%) and " showed 72% of school leaders believed that ARIS provided them with information that was helpful or very helpful in improving student performance."

This week, we'd like to know whether you use ARIS, which gives parents the opportunity to log in and keep up with their child's grades and test scores. Parents gained access to ARIS in May. Vote now and leave a comment below to let us know more!
