Brooklyn Prospect Windsor Terrace Middle Charter School is a charter school, which will serve grades K-5. 

Charter schools are tuition-free schools that operate independently of the city Department of Education, and because of this have a lot of leeway over things like discipline codes, school year/day lengths and teaching philosophies. Charter schools can range from super traditional and strict to super progressive with lots of student freedom. Be sure to ask questions when you visit.
