MS 203 was one of a number of small schools designed to replace IS 183, a troubled junior high school that was closed in 2002 because of poor performance. The new school, like the one it replaced, had a large proportion of children arriving with poor academic skills as well as many children with special needs and those who were just learning English. The building now houses Success Academy Bronx Charter I, the Urban Assembly Bronx Academy of Letters and P168, a District 75 program for students with severe disabilities.
