The old Evander Childs High School, which graduated its last class in June 2008, had a reputation for violence and disorder. Even after the school closed and several small schools opened in the building, violence has been a problem. A 2010 fight in the cafeteria sent security officers and students to the hospital, Channel 12 reported. However, on a 2012 visit to the building, the schools seemed calm. Halls were clear and schools were increasingly sharing spaces like cafeterias and gyms. This is no longer Evander Childs, reported Bronx Lab Principal Christopher Lagares.
