Our Insights

The Department of Education decided in 2011 to close Performance Conservatory High School for poor academic performance. No new students were admitted in September 2011 and the phase-out was completed in 2014. For your transcript or proof of graduation, call Bronx Envision Academy at 718-589-1590.

Performance High School was originally called the Bronx High School of Performance and Stagecraft. Opened in 2004, it suffered from rapid turnover of administrators, low attendance and poor graduation rates.

Because of administrative snafus, nearly half of the senior class was told days before graduation that they didnt have enough credit and would be required to attend summer school in 2011, NY1 reported.

In 2010, only 49 percent of students graduated on-time and the attendance rate was 76 percent, 10 percentage points below the city average.

The building is now occupied by Bronx Envision Academy, Explorations Academy and IS 98.(Clara Hemphill, DOE statistics, December 2012; updated June 2014)
