Satellite East is a tiny middle school tucked into the third floor of PS 305 in Bedford Stuyvesant. Principal Kim McPherson has been at the helm since 2002.
When it opened, Satellite East was a selective school that attracted academically strong students. Now the school is open to all District 13 students. Most 6th-graders come in performing below grade level in math and reading. Attendance is well below the citywide average. The school's enrollment declined from 271 in 2006 to 94 in 2019.
