Our Insights
What’s Special
Three years of art
The Downside
Poor attendance
Founded in 2007, the Middle School for Art and Philosophy is a tiny school in Flatbush where students may take three years of studio art and work with senior citizens in an Elders Share the Arts program.
The school is housed in the former IS 252 building, closed in 2009 because of poor performance. The building also houses Kings Collegiate Charter School.
Test scores below average for the city but are about average for the district. Attendance is below the citywide average.
Admissions: Zoned school also open to children in District 18. (Clara Hemphill, April 2019)
