P.S. 30 Queens

PS 30 closed in June 2014 after years of poor performance. In September 2011, a new school, PS 354, opened as a replacement school for PS 30.

The Department of Education decided in 2011 to close PS 30 because too few students were performing on grade level and community members expressed concerns about a lack of communication between families and the school. Families said there were too few opportunities for parents to get involved with the school, and there was a lack of partnerships with community organizations. In April 2011 the Panel for Education Policy approved the DOE's proposal to phase out and replace the school. (Web reports, June 2014)
