The Downside

Little information available

PS 53 (K053) is a safe and orderly school where students agree that most students treat each other with respect and that bullying occurs infrequently, surveys report.

The school, which serves students ranging from age 4 to 21, is located in eight sites across Brooklyn. The school has both standardized and alternately assessed students and class size and ratio varies. The attendance rate for the 2015- 2016 school year was 87.5 percent, according to the Comprehensive Education Plan.

ThePS 53 at 125 Covert Street offers a unique inclusion program designed by Marquis Studios, in which general education students fromEvergreen Middle School for Urban Exploration, IS 562, take art classes inmask making and paper sculpture with students in the District 75 program. The classes are led by a teaching artist with experience in inclusion and are attended by teachers from both schools.[photo from Marquis Studios]

Additionally, the school has a pre-vocational program that allows students to gain work experience. According to the Comprehensive Education Plan, the schools program has partnerships with GAP, five Below, Burlington Coat Factory, and Modells Sporting Goods.
