Our Insights

What’s Special

A safe, welcoming school

The Downside

Lackluster teaching

PS/MS 31 is a school where children feel safe and parents feel welcome. The principal has an open door, according to the school’s Quality Review.

However, there is room for improvement in the quality of teaching. The review said there were many “teacher-directed lessons with scarce student participation,” as well as “teachers lecturing, asking low-level questions” and passing out “worksheets with no purposeful meaning.”

Admissions: District 7 school choice. (Clara Hemphill, DOE data, May 2014)
