Ambitious, experienced educator spearheads a large-scale revamping effort.
Low level of student achievement and minimal family involvement.
JHS 258 closed in 2009 after years of poor performance, low attendance and discipline problems. The school's final principal was Stanley Walker whose attempts to turn around the failing school were not sufficient to keep it open.
The building now houses a PS 140, a District 75 school for students with special needs and Leadership Prep Bedford Stuyvesant, a K-12 charter school. (Building photo on this page by NY Daily News).
