The Downside

Poor graduation and attendance

Urban Action Academy has a focus on law and public service but since its opening in 2008 has struggled to find its footing, after the founding principal left the school. The graduation rate is low, as is attendance.

Students participate in moot court and mock trial at Fordham University and may take courses at area colleges. However, only 68 percent of students responding to a 2017 school survey said that the school offered enough academics and outside activities to keep them interested.

Urban Action is one of three small high schools which opened in 2008 in the Canarsie Educational campus to replace the poorly performing old Canarsie High School which closed in 2011. The school share athletic teams. (Pamela Wheaton, web reports December 2017)
