Our Insights

A message from the KIPP Freedom Faculty and Staff:

KIPP Freedom is a charter middle school located at 1825 Prospect Avenue in the Bronx. It shares its building with P.S. 44. Lariely Sanchez is the Founding Principal of the school, which opened in 2018. Ms. Sanchez has nearly 15 years of experience teaching and leading schools.

At KIPP Freedom, we believe we are the right people at the right time to continue the revolutionary fight for a just, free, and equitable world. Through rigorous academic and character education, we love and push each other to reach our happiest and highest selves. We develop independent leaders who think critically, work collaboratively, and act courageously. As a team and family, we use the power of our voices, our stories, and our writing to create a world that honors our past, transforms our present, and liberates our future.

Our daily schedule includes two hours of math instruction, two hours of reading instruction, small guided reading literacy groups, science, history, and computer-based digital learning, and even financial literacy! Students take daily fine arts classes, rotating between exercise science, visual arts, and dance. Students have recess each day and participate in weekly advisory groups, such as Student Council, GEMS (Girls Empowered and Motivated to Succeed), and Lead Like Obama. At KIPP Freedom Middle School, we believe in developing the whole child with academics and social-emotional development.

In Dance class, students explore how to express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions through movement. We learn about different cultures, as well as the pioneers who have paved the way for us to learn about the rich history of dance. We explore many techniques, such as jazz, ballet, West African, and contemporary dance. Students love dance, and feel like it is a safe space for them to express who they are and who they are becoming.

We have many family events throughout the year, including our Nonfiction Fair, KIPPsterverse Festival, Internet safety training, giveaway raffles, and our Fall Fest Family Feast. The KIPP Freedom Family Association organizes volunteering events, promotes advocacy in the Bronx community, runs bake sales, and hosts parties. Our culture of family involvement contributes to the tight relationship between staff and family. We’re so grateful for all of the partnerships with our families.
