What’s Special

A high-tech trading floor teaches students about Wall Street

The Downside

Low enrollment

The Brooklyn Academy of Global Finance opened in 2009 to introduce city teens to careers on Wall Street. However, it has struggled to attract students; attendance is poor; and few graduates are prepared for college. The enrollment has hovered between 100 and 150 students.

The school has a high tech "trading floor," equipped with a real-time stock ticker, touchscreen monitors to track stocks and computer modules.  Students visit Wall Street and are offered internships in finance.

The building in Bedford Stuyvesant is shared with a middle school, MS 57 and and all-girls charter high school, Brooklyn Emerging Leaders Academy. (Clara Hemphill, web reports, December 2018)
